We’ve lost count of the number of times we’ve been sent this picture.
In theory the owner generally thinks a new handle will fix the problem, but the truth of the matter is much more complicated.
In the past, someone has broken the original BRASS stud and a bodger has replaced it with a mild steel version.
Over the years the water has corroded the steel and the rust has grown in the void.
One day, the new operator uses the diverter and ends up with a handful of ultra-sharp shards of porcelain piercing their skin.
The problem now is that the broken and rusted steel stud is harder than the brass housing, so trying to drill it out is nearly impossible.
Have a look in the gallery below at the lengths we have to do to fix the problem.
