It has been said before that French taps are very much, “form over function”.

When studied from an engineering point of view, they do seem to make things undersized and with finer threads than the English versions. (NEVER OVER-TIGHTEN A FRENCH TAP WITH THESE FINE THREADS – they will strip!)
