What happens if…

A plumber was apparently happy to fit a ferrous metal nut, to hold a washer in place in this bath mixer tap.
He may have thought “It’s got a Bright Nickel Zinc coating on it. It will be fine…”

Well look at the state of it now!
And this has had a negative impact throughout the rest of tap too.
Bits of rust have marked the seating, scored the diverter cone and blocked the handspray.
It would have been better to have put nothing on the thread, than make that decision.

The other issue was that everytime the tap was turned on to fill the bath, the first couple of minutes flowed brown, rusty water.
Don’t make this easy mistake in your tap.

But don’t worry… In this case we prevailed. The thread was cleaned up and chased with a die.
The correct nut and washer were installed to hold the new rubber tap washer.
