Reclaimed European Tap Combination

Our good friends at LASSCO have a great saying, “re-use is nothing new”.

One of our customers swears by this motto and her apartment is an eclectic mix of styles and fashions. The bath shower mixer that she commissioned us to make for her was no exception.

A flea-market in Spain was the starting point for the main body of this European creation, bought for five Euros. “Sold as seen”, it was probably worth more in scrap value. She’d brought it home and excitedly got a plumber to install it, only to find water leaking all over the place!

Once removed and on the bench at our workshops, we took the tap to pieces and found that someone had already tried to fix the original diverter with a drill, a hammer and a piece of copper tubing!

Luckily, we had an old French mixer tap that had been purchased incomplete and at this point “Dr Frankenstein’s tap” started to formulate! With some cutting and brazing, and some judicial pipe bending, a hybrid was born.

So that we had full control of separate uses, a reclaimed Bolding in-line tap was installed for the use of the shower. The rose was another find in a reclamation yard.

We wanted to polish and nickel plate the entire assembly, but the customer wanted to leave it in its original exposed state, to give onlookers the chance to see where the joins were made and keep that utilitarian style.

If you have a collection of old worn taps that need to be “reused”, contact us with your “dreams for water fountains over your bath”.
